For 2025 RML has another iconic VW wheel design getting the RML treatment.
For anyone who remembers (and got so excited for) the US-releases of the 16v-engine Volkswagen Scirocco and Mk2 GTI, the 14×6 Teardrop wheel design is most likely near and dear to your heart.
As part of the RML Philosophy, they’ve taken the original 14×6 design and made it bigger (16″), wider (7′ or 8″), stronger, and lighter (approximately 17-lb). Additionally, they’ve also chosen to make the wheel design truly directional – two wheels for the right side of the vehicle, and two different ones for the left side. This approach required them to create two separate molds, but they felt this was worth the extra expense.
As with their other wheels, these two new molds will be used in combination with flow-form casting technology. Flow-formed wheels are lighter and stronger than traditionally-casted wheels, and it also allows RML to offer different widths from the same mold(s). As such, we’re offering the new RML Teardrop in 16×7 ET35 and 16×8 ET35 options.
A matching machined aluminum lug cap covers a lug center with either 4×100 and 4×108 or 5×100 and 5×112 patterns (16×8 only). For aesthetic reasons, we’re not usually a fan of dual-PCD drilled wheels, but when there’s a cool cap to cover the whole detail, why not make the production process that much simpler, while also widening the second-hand market for the original purchaser? At the same time, we’ve opened up a new wheel option for some of the older Audi models, as well as a few oddball VWs (no offense).
The wheels will have an OEM-style machined face, lug cap with matching finish, polished lips, and charcoal grey teardrop inserts.
OEM-spec ball-seat hardware is recommended Â
To order a proper set, make sure you order two right wheels and two left wheels.
